Nigel Reo-Coker started his career with Wimbledon F.C He progressed through the Ranks of the Youth Academy to establishing himself as a first team regular, making his debut at the tender age of 17 against Barnsley.
The highly rated teenager was another promising talent of the Wimbledon Youth System and it was evident that his talent shone in midfield earning him the skipper’s armband, making him one of the youngest ever in the game.
After an impressive first half of the 2003-04 season with the Dons, Nigel moved to West Ham United in January 2004. His energetic play and leadership qualities in the young protégé earned him the captain’s armband at West Ham. Strong willed and determined Reo-Coker displayed these qualities as he led West Ham to Promotion through the Play-off Finals in the 2004/05 season beating Preston 1-0, gaining a place in The Premiership.
In his debut season in the Premiership, he finished 9th with The Hammers. Nigel also reached the FA Cup final with West Ham against Liverpool on 13th May 2006 at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium; Liverpool won 3-1 on Penalties. Difficult as it was Nigel remained composed and showed strong support for his team.
Showing Composure and support for his team attracted the attentions of Manchester United and made it onto the stand-by list for the England World Cup squad. Nigel was the first player to captain the England U21 side into the new Wembley Stadium March 2007 against Italy U21 and was also U21 captain in the 2007 European Championship Finals.
Nigel joined Aston Villa F.C. on 5 July 2007.
